Cops: Teen arrested in El shooting, older brother sought

POSTED: Monday, December 17, 2012, 5:54 PM

Half of the teenage-thug duo who police say fired a gun into a crowded El train last week after an argument over the Sixers, wounding two passengers, was arrested on Monday and charged in the shooting.

Cops said Eric Early, 16, is one of two men seen in surveillance video exchanging words with a Chicago Bulls fan on the train Wednesday night, then exiting onto the platform near 46th and Market streets in West Philadelphia. When the two men – identified by cops as brothers – leave the train, one turns around, pulls a gun, and fires back through the doors.

The bullet, police said, went through the abdomen of a 36-year-old man and into the leg of a 30-year-old man standing behind him. Both were hospitalized in stable condition following the shooting.

Police are still on the hunt for Matthew Early, 18. Eric Early, of 49th Street near Chestnut, is charged with aggravated assault and related offenses. His brother faces the same charges.

Anyone with information on the older Early’s whereabouts is asked to contact police at 215-686-TIPS (8477), Southwest Detectives at 215-686-3183, text a tip to PPD TIP (773847) or submit a tip online. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

Turn yourself in and ask a judge for help, you need reforming and your little brother needs you to show him the way. If they catch you first, your done. Black Leaders should call out for him to offer support and actually get off their asses and help these and other none educated blacks that only know how to handle a situation with a gun. I can't believe the city is still going down the tubes, City Leaders put more hours in to control this problem, Show me you care.

Well let's wait and see if those related offenses turn out to be gun charges or if the DA is letting them slide on that? I am sure this isn't the 1st time these thugs have been arrested and instead of being locked up behind bars, some liberal judge let them roam free to prey on society. And people still have to wonder why we need guns to protect ourselves. If we all had to wait around for the cops to show up there would be a lot more dead law abiding citizens.

Why? Is there an outcry from whites--from YOU--whenever a white person with whom they (or you) have no connectino whatsoever? Do white "leaders" speak out when whites who are unknown to them commit crimes?

Yes, actually there is outcry from "white" leaders when these things happen. Also when people kill people in white neighborhoods, the neighbors TURN THEM IN IMMEDIATELY. "No snitchin'" doesn't apply in "white" culture (as you call it).

this country will never get to the real cause of crime if we always make it a black and white issue. ENOUGH ALREADY. blacks, whites, asian, latinos etc. all commit crimes. lets move on to solutions and not finger pointing. please!!!!!!!!!!!

KYW is reporting that the thugs were cursing on the train and the Bulls fan reprimanded them for cursing in front of women & children. That's not was is being reported here.

While I detest--DETEST--people who curse in public (mind you, I use those words, too, but generally not (a) in public; (b) in a never-ending string, or (c) in my "outside" voice the way that I'm sure these fools would've been doing becasue, honestly, it reveals a lack of decorum and makes you sound and look like the idiot that your probably really are), if it is true that the victim reprimanded them, he was (partly) wrong. Not because he was wrong to expect that they conduct themselves with decency, but because he didn't want women to be offended.

I mean, seriously, women are adults. They're not delicate flowers who will wither and die if some dude curses in their presence, and it is sexist to treat them as if they would. They don't want to hear it? They can either speak up for themselves or move to another car.

As for the children? Well, if you don't want people cursing in the presence of YOUR children, then you can ask (or try asking) them to stop, but if other passengers on the train didn't object (for whatever reason, and yes, fear of the repercussions could have been one of the reasons and, as we see, rightfully so), and if his own children weren't present, he should've just minded his business.

And, anyway, if someone uses words that you don't want your children to use, you'd get MUCH better results from explaining to your children that you there are certain words they shouldn't use, rather then trying to make somebody else conform to your values. Especially on the El. Anyway, I hope he feels better soon and these monsters get what they deserve.

Believe me, I'm not defending our society's troubling slide into uncouthness (is that even the proper noun form of "uncouth"?)--I would be the last person to do so--but I AM saying that it is true that discretion is the better part of valor.

wb2nd - I'm guessing you're the kind of person that would sit quietly on the train while thugs beat, rob, and rape women and children. Then you would go home and tell your kids, "Don't do that, it's not nice." I'm the kind of guy that would make sure the thugs are taken off the train in body bags. Your children will build monuments in my name.

These two guys do not look related. They look nothing alike. When I watched the video I thought the victim was harrassing them because they kept turning their body away from the older man. That does not give them a reason to shoot a gun at him. That mentality is what is ruining their young lives. He is only 16 years old and already has a messed up life. That's pathetic. Where are their parents? Sixteen & carrying a gun. Good lord.

I may be missing something here. The video shows the victim hassling this kid, probably based on earlier continuation of words. Older brother seems to tell kid to ignore victim. Older brother then shoots them. What exactly did non-shooter do criminally? Is there evidence of conspiracy (words like "put a cap in his a##")? How was this one an accessory to the shooter?

Okay, these boys were probably diagnosed with anger management, ADD, ADHD or another mental illnesses as children. Then they were prescribed psychotropic drugs and got SSI checks. Then, they stopped taking the drugs, dropped out of school and got angrier/more anti-social. They scared their mother but she did the best she could. Now they will be jailed for a long time or killed...which ever comes first.

On the other hand, Adam Lanza was diagnosed with a mental illness and prescribed drugs. Lanza stopped the drugs and got angrier and more anti-social. He terrified and killed his mother then decided to kill more.

Lanza called 27 and these boys KILLED NONE. Lanza planned his attack with years of confined anger and KILLED 27; those boys reacted to a STUPID discussion and KILLED NONE. Lanza KILLED HIS MOTHER; those boys still have their maternal figure.

Poster children for gun control. Along with the mentally ill, the police departments have to make a concerted effort of relieving thugs of their weapons. If that means an NYC stop and frisk policy as well as some well placed home searches, so be it. Just about all of Philadelphia's gun troubles are from thugs, not legal owners. Validate everyone's ownership if necessary and liberally confiscate in every questionable situation to eliminate any doubt.

I would add further that anyone with a history of violent crime should be considered eligible for a legal home search using the record of violence and parole conditions as probable cause for an illegal weapons search. As far as I know, parole officers can do discretionary surprise searches not requiring a warrant. Do it. Enough is enough.
