Cops: Teen accused of bringing bomb to school

Looks like someone was paying attention in chemistry class.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with causing and risking catastrophe, reckless endangerment and related offenses after he allegedly brought a homemade bomb to the Feltonville School for the Arts and Sciences yesterday morning, police spokeswoman Officer Tanya Little said.

The bomb, a plastic bottle filled with household chemicals and water, blew up in the school's courtyard, on Courtland Street near Ella, shortly after the school day had started, district spokesman Fernando Gallard said.

No one was injured in the blast, but the school was evacuated as a precaution, Gallard said.

Personell from the police Bomb Disposal Unit and the Fire Department recovered materials for making a second bomb inside one of the school's bathrooms.

"We presume the student dumped them there so he wouldn't get caught," Gallard said.

The boy, who lives in Hunting Park, has been suspended pending the investigation by police.
