Police investigated a "suspicious vehicle" found in the Independence Visitor Center parking garage Sunday following the detention of a man in camouflage who was seen at the center in the morning.

The center was evacuated for a brief time around noon, while police investigated the vehicle at the garage underneath the center on Market Street near 6th. The bomb squad and K-9 units were called to the scene, which was cleared and reopened by 1:30 p.m.

Other sites along Independence Mall, including Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, remained open during the investigation.

According to police and reports, a man dressed in camouflage and wearing face paint was spotted at the center around 9 a.m. A police spokeswoman said that man was detained but did not have any suspicious devices.

6ABC said they spoke with the man as he was led away in handcuffs and said he claimed to be an architect who had been hiding in the garage.
