Police have identified the man gunned down last night at Market and Salford streets in West Philadelphia as Malik Carter, 29, who lived on the block where he was shot.

Carter was shot multiple times at 9:32 p.m., said Officer Christine O'Brien, a police spokeswoman. He flagged down a passing officer and said he had been robbed by someone in a white van. He was taken the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where doctors declared him dead at 10:04 p.m., O'Brien said.

Court records show Carter had several drug convictions and was on probation for a 2012 drug case at the time of his death.
