Cops: No charges for couple who left 3 kids in car at Sugarhouse

POSTED: Tuesday, September 20, 2011, 12:05 PM

This story has been updated.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office declined to prosecute a couple who left their three grandchildren in a car at Sugarhouse Casino while they gambled last night, according to police.

The children - ages 2, 7 and 12 - were spotted alone in the car by casino security around 7:55 p.m., police said. It's believed their grandparents left them alone from around 7:45 p.m., when they parked, to around 8:30 p.m., when they emerged from the casino and found authorities at their vehicle, police said.

The grandparents, who are the children's legal guardians, were taken in for questioning but released without charges, police said. Their identities have not been released.

According to a Special Victims Unit supervisor, the District Attorney's Office decided not to prosecute the case because the eldest child in the car was 12 and because there were no other signs of abuse or neglect.

these parents were lucky..........if they had decided to go to the taj in a/c instead of the sugar, their car AND kids would of been long gone when they got back. who goes into a casino for 45 minutes anyway? my vote for parents-of-the-year goes to these two, charges or not

So this happens in Bensalem and people want to charge the parents, fine the casino and shut the whole operation down, but when it happens in Philly it's all good??

which pol's daughter/son-in-law was this? how come they publish photos of the derelict gambling neglectful parents, but not this couple? Let alone not charging them.... leaving a 12 year old in the car for 45 minutes to watch over a 2 year old so you can go gamble is okay??

Bottom line is that if you want to leave your kids in the car while you gamble, do your gambling in the city at Sugarhouse NOT at Parx in Bensalem.

Glad to see that idiots like these will have a safe haven so they will no longer be a problem at PARX.

The eldest child is 12. What's the problem? In Philadelphia, a lot of people start having kids at 13.

Great, now these gambling idiots know, that they can leave their children alone(with a child of 12)in the casino parking lot, while they gamble the night away!!!! Great message to send about Philadelphia, keep up the image campaign PPD, and the DA office!!!

Guardianship at it's worst. They should be locked up! and have the kids put in foster care to find really caring role models, unlike these low lifes!
