Cops: Men rob Manayunk jeweler, tie up employees

Two armed robbers - one of whom should have stuck out like a store thumb in his tacky attire - held up a Manayunk jewelry store late this morning and tied up the employees, police said.

Two armed robbers - one of whom should have stuck out like a store thumb in his tacky attire - held up a Manayunk jewelry store late this morning and tied up the employees, police said.

Around 10:30 a.m., one of the robbers, a 6-foot-tall black man with a gray goatee, blond wig, yellow jacket and tan or beige loafers, entered A.I. Poland Jewelers on Main Street near Grape and forced an employee and the shop's owner to the back of the store, police said.

He then told a second robber to enter the store and that man tied up the employee and the owner and pistol whipped the owner, police said. The only description police had of that suspect is that he was wearing white sneakers.

Taken in the robbery was an unknown amount of jewelery, the employee's purse, her identification and the store security cameras, police said.

The robbers were last seen fleeing south on Main Street and remain on the run. Anyone with information can call the police department's tip line at 215-686-8477.
