Cops: Man shot during argument over food, nephew arrested

An argument over food left a 56-year-old man hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his forehead and his 22-year-old nephew behind bars Wednesday, police said.

Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division gave this account:

Around 10:35 a.m. the victim and his nephew, whom police identified as Brandon Lambert, got in an argument because Lambert ate his uncle's food. The argument eventually escalated to a fistfight in the kitchen of the victim's home on 33rd Street near Wallace in the Manuta section of West Philadelphia.

The victim ran from the kitchen to his bedroom on the third floor of the house and shut the door. Lambert ran after him, wrenched the bedroom door open and shot his uncle in his forehead above his left eye. He ran back down the stairs afterward and fled the scene.

Police responded to the house and took the victim to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was listed in stable condition as of 9 p.m.

Around 1:25 p.m., police found Lambert about three blocks away from the house on Brandywine Street near 33rd and arrested him.

Lambert faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons violations.
