Police are investigating the murder of a man with a gunshot wound to his head whose body was found inside an abandoned property in East Germantown Thursday afternoon.

Police are investigating the murder of a man with a gunshot wound to his head whose body was found inside an abandoned property in East Germantown Thursday afternoon.

Police said they were called to Stafford Street near Chew Avenue shortly after 2 p.m., where the man, whose identity is unknown, was found.

Police said they found a shell casing and drugs at the scene. It was unclear later Thursday how long the man had been dead, and police were still working to sort out the circumstances surround the homicide – the city's seventh in the first 10 days of 2013.

Not long before that man was found, police said that medics who were responding to a 9-1-1 call to check on the well-being of a 44-year-old man in a house on Taylor Street near Cambria in North Philadelphia found him dead in the living room of a gunshot wound to the head. Cops said a gun was found in the room, and they were investigating it as a suspicious death later Thursday.
