Cops: Homeowner shoots, kills burglar in Powelton

POSTED: Tuesday, January 15, 2013, 10:50 PM

A homeowner in Powelton shot a man who broke into his house to death Tuesday night, police said.

Cops said the man was upstairs in his home, on Wiota Street near Spring Garden, around 9 p.m. when he heard the burglar break into the house through his kitchen door. The burglar made it to the living room, with a spade shovel in hand, and started up the stairs to the second floor when police say the 37-year-old homeowner shot him three times in the chest.

The burglar was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The break-in and shooting were under investigation late Tuesday night.

lol KingOfPhilly, so you are happy to hear that law abiding people can use guns to protect themselves? That's good, you don't sound like one of those "all guns are bad" people lol.

By the way, how do you know that gun had only three rounds in it? Maybe he had more but only shot three times.

Considering current events, do you think anyone's interested in knowing whether the homeowner used a legal gun? Whether the burglar has a record?

YES! Make this man a shining example of what happens to bad people, when good citizens fight back.

See how a POLICEONE.COM , author wants to form a "minuteman" army of x-cops, lame duck former conscripts and concealed carry permitters to respond to citizen shootings like Aurora, Oak Creek, Columbine and Newtown. "Stand your ground" is alive and kicking in Florida and, as we see here in Philly. Refer to: ROBERT A. YOUNG'S BLOG FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILIITY @ BLOGSPOT.COM for the details in an article by a former veteran, pensioned Philly Cop in an article entitled: "GUN CONTROL IS REALLY SPIN CONTROL", A GOOD READ INDEED....

Gun control is a chance for liberals to pretend they care about doing something while absolving themselves for their failed policies that have created the culture responsible for a large portion of the murders committed in this country. I wonder how many of the 330 people murdered in Philadelphia last year were victims of Assault rifles? On the other hand, what per centage do you think grew up with no father in the house while they lived on government assistance? I wonder why the Inquirer never reports those statistics and actually wrote a shameful editorial late in the year in defense of one-parent families.

"a man who broke into his house to death"? Can you no longer find reporters or editors who can compose a proper English sentence?

Looking for proper English in a news outlet is like looking for filet mignon in McDonald's.

i'm on the homeowners side. he did right to shoot him and never do a day in jail. if you're enough to break in, you deserve whatever happens to you.

What is being investigated and why? Is there indication that a burglary took place? Was the dead guy in possesion of the shovel? Did the homeowner blow him away? What else do we need to find out? Good shooting! Good riddance to another thieving dirtball...

Please identify the dead burglar, but do not reveal the homeowner...
