Cops: Gun stolen from NoLibs eatery was off-duty officer's

The Ruger handgun stolen from a Northern Liberties restaurant on Monday belonged to an off-duty police officer, a department spokeswoman said Thursday.

An unidentified female customer at Cantina Dos Segundos, on 2nd Street near Laurel, was seen on surveillance footage taking another customer's backpack while dining there about 3:30 p.m., police said.

That backpack, however, belonged to an off-duty officer, and contained her Ruger LCP .380 semiautomatic handgun, as well as her reading glasses, knife, and house and car keys, according to police.

The weapon was from her personal collection, a police spokeswoman said, and was not her department-issued firearm — Philadelphia Police officers carry Glock pistols.

The female suspect, who was eating with an unidentified man at an outside table, grabbed the bag while it sat unattended on a chair inside the restaurant. Surveillance footage shows that she then took it outside and rifled through it as the man kept watch of the restaurant's interior.

The two left shortly after.

After the theft, the officer reported the gun stolen to department officials, who opened an investigation, according to the spokeswoman.

Tipsters should call 215-686-3243.
