Cops: Child escapes from car trunk after abduction in East Germantown

A 9-year-old boy escaped from the trunk of a car after being abducted from a recreation center in East Germantown, police said.

Authorities said that while playing at the East Germantown Recreation Center some time this afternoon, the boy was grabbed by an older white male. The male put the child into the trunk of an older model light gray Ford sedan and drove off. After approximately 30 minutes, the male stopped and opened up the trunk at an unknown location and the child was able to flee.

A woman found the child wandering near Chew Avenue and Gorgas Lane and called police. Authorities said the child does not know where he escaped from the car, but can identify the intersection if he sees it.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his 50s, approximately 5 feet 10 to 6 feet, wearing a black shirt, gray pants with salt and pepper hair.

The Special Victims Unit is investigating the incident.
