Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said today that there were 33 people shot in the city within a three-day span from Friday to Sunday.

Of those shootings, five were fatal and one was a suicide.

Homicide Capt. James Clark said the latest killing of Nyeme Taylor, which occurred Sunday night at an unauthorized street party on 33rd and Diamond streets, was the result of Taylor, 30, urging his 14-year-old son to fight five men.

Clark said Taylor son's was at the party when he was jumped by five men for unknown reasons. The boy ran to get Taylor and when the two returned to the party together, Taylor told the five men that his son would fight each of them, Clark said.

When the men jumped the boy again, Taylor tried to pull them off and one of the attackers pulled out a gun and started firing, police said.

Taylor was killed and three girls, including Taylor's 15-year-old daughter, were injured by gunfire. She along with other two girls, ages 6 and 10, are expected to survive their wounds.

Police also released shocking video of a patron who was ejected from a Nicetown bar early yesterday morning for smoking who came back and fired 11 shots into the bar, killing Carl Sharper, 43, and injuring five others.

Anyone with information on any of these incidents is urged to call the police department's tip line at 215-686-8477.

Of course, at least one scumball has to go the lowball route. I guess the white dude who shot four pharmacy workers execution style last week on Long Island does not count.

The exception doesn't disprove the rule. Philadelphia, like a lot of big cities, has a terrible problem lately with large gangs of black teenagers behaving like animals. If mobs of whites were terrorizing the black community you'd see a very different reaction from the powers that be. Unfortunately, the white community will have to take care of itself by any means necessary.

Yeah, John but you're not supposed to say that. In fact, you're not even supposed to THINK that.

lalaw9833, to answer your question: Yeah, that might count if we lived in Long Island, but since we live in the Philadelphia area and this is a Philly newspaper, I really don't see what one has to do with the other? If you want to concern yourself with something that happened in another state, then that's your business. I'm more concerned about the fact that I might be out walking Precious one evening only to be accosted by an angry, violent flash mob or shot by a stray bullet. It's scary to think that's what Philly is turning into.

Tj can't spell, but you know what? He's still right. The shootings this weekend in Philly were overwhelmingly black, except for the tragic inexplicable suicide. The shooters thus far appear to also be black, at least from the videos that have surfaced, and reports by witnesses. We are living in a black sui-genocide in Philly, and what happens elsewhere does NOT change it. Can't pass the buck on this one.
