Cops: 2 nabbed in Rhawnhurst motel shootout

A beef between two guys from opposite ends of the city led to bullets flying in a Rhawnhurst motel in March, police said.

And the gunmen accused of opening fire on each other are now in police custody.

Vincent Jackson, 30, and Adonis Fountain, 19, were arrested Thursday, police said. Both face aggravated assault and related offenses for allegedly waging a running gunbattle inside the Roosevelt Motor Inn, on Roosevelt Boulevard near Napfle Street, on March 31.

Jackson, of Wharton Street near 31st in Grays Ferry, is also charged with corruption of minors and related offenses after allegedly operating a prostitution ring inside the motel, police said.

While at "work" in the motel, a friend called Jackson to say that Fountain, of Carnation Street near Washington Lane in East Germantown, had just strolled into the motel, police said.

The two were in the middle of a major dispute, so Jackson apparently thought it would be a good idea to confront the teen while he had the chance.

In dynamic surveillance footage distributed by police in the wake of the shooting, two men are seen firing at each other in one of the motel's cramped hallways as bystanders duck and flee.

Police said that footage, plus assistance from a witness, led to the arrests in the case.

Both men remain in police custody, in lieu of their bail, set at $750,000 and $1 million for Fountain and Jackson, respectively, according to court records.
