Cops: 2 men gunned down in SW Philly

Violence rocked Southwest Philadelphia this afternoon, with two men gunned down in separate shootings within a mile of each other, police said.

In the first incident, a man in his 20s was shot multiple times in his head, neck and torso just before 1:30 p.m. while sitting in a car parked on 60th Street near Yocum, police said.

The victim, whose identity isn't available, was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead minutes later.

About an hour after that first man died, another victim was hit by gunfire.

That second attack took place on Paschall Avenue near 72nd Street, police said. The victim, 26, was shot multiple times in both legs and was also taken to Penn.

Doctors pronounced him dead there at 3:43 p.m.

There's no information available on a motive or suspect in either case, police said.

A police spokeswoman said it doesn't appear that the two shootings are related, according to preliminary evidence.
