Contractors discover human remains in vacant home

Contractors were demolishing the inside of a vacant home on 63rd Street near Lansdowne Avenue in Overbrook and stumbled across human remains Thursday afternoon, police said.

"A skull rolled out from the debris and they saw other pieces of human bones," Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division said.

The remains were taken to the Medical Examiner's office for further investigation.

Neighbors told cops that squatters had been in and out of the home since 2005.

The home has been vacant since a fire tore through it in 2004, police said, and it was sealed afterward by L&I according to city property records.
