City officer arrested on assault charges
Police have arrested a veteran officer on assault charges.
Aleksande Shwarz, 54, a 21-year veteran assigned to Northeast Philadelphia's 2nd District, arrested someone for assaulting him on March 4 on Roosevelt Boulevard near Napfle Street, but video of the incident shows the officer assaulted the citizen, a source said. Shwarz, who was arrested late Wednesday, was charged with simple assault, unsworn falsification to authorities and abuse of office. His bail has been set at $5,000.
Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey suspended Shwarz for 30 days with the intent to dismiss. Shwarz is the latest in a handful of police officers arrested in Philadelphia in recent months for everything from theft to assault.
That lowlife ghetto thug, John Street the Racist, once proclaimed "the brothers and sisters are now running this city!" Well, once again, we see how wonderfully, said 'brothers' are running the city....the Philly Police Department is doing SOOO well under a black police chief..... Blinky The Cyclops
Oink if you hate freedom. If not, join copwatch.com and stop this filth from arresting your friends and neighbors, even you. IBINUBU
I love when the cop haters come out. They seem to wait for these type of articles to voice their ever growing opposition to law enforcement. But when they need assistance, they are the first and loudest to call for help. Trident252
Cops dont start out bad, they learn it as they gain experience on the street from the senior, usually disgruntled officers. What programs does the Philly PD have in place to prevent the young officers from becoming soiled? If it's not addressed, then the culture will continue to fester and grow. An ethics squad in addition to IAD would be the answer. MacDaddy36B
Shocking. Philly, where the PD's code of silence is tighter that the 'hood's. Just another street gang. CiceroSpuriousDeodatus- Ukrainian and Russian babes Ya tebya lublu!!!!
I guess this copy learned how to beat people up when the Ukraine was a member of the former Soviet Socialist Republic. Dolly92748
Welcome to Philadelphia. This is standard for the PD intelliwoman
Looks like there's going to be an "upside" to the Orwellian network of CCTV cameras we've created. If my former fair city continues to clean up their PD like this I might even have to move back! EMSguy
Ukranians are the worst, they annoy me to no end...with their aldi food markets and there cheap ways cmoney
Video makes it hard to operate as was once acceptable in the age of dinosaurs. Tkat
If your name was Aleksande...you'd be assaulting people too. hititwheretheyaint
One of the city's fine Ukranian citizens...let me guess he lives in Somerton??? cmoney
What a coward. Lock him up so he can think about his crimes. I'm sure this is just the one we know about. Probably been doing it for years. flamingo
Another shameful arrest of a police officer. My questions are how many other citizens have gone through this type of situation in his 21 year career and how many other officers has he trained to emulate this type of behavior? Worker1
SMILE you are on Candid Camera!!!!! mathewsw
It's re-election time, They covered up officer leocal assault on Askia Sabur with a steel baton and a video clip of the incident is on youtube that got over 100,000 views. As we get closer to the primary, Mayor Nutter is capable of having anybody arrested. I wish a supervisor would of saw the tape and stopped the arrest. 2nd district is a very good district for the time being and I called them the 2nd cavalry. When I call, They usually get here pretty quick. They are not miracle workers and all walks of life have bad apples. JoseDeLeon

LOL....so the age-old tradition of cops assaulting citizens and then charging their victims with assault was finally defeated by video eh? haha it only took what? 10 months?? does anyone understand what would have happened WITHOUT the video? the citizen victim would have been charged, found guilty and have to live with not only having been assaulted, but having a conviction as well. LOL at a career crooked cop who has to work at the Home Depot now IcanTakeit
Did they find Vodka in his car? daisy99
The reason you are seeing more Officer arrests is that the new reign is not trying to keep the dirty laundry hidden and the dirt swept under the rugs. Kudos to Commissioner Ramsey and Mayor Nutter. Earl J
