Card skimmer installed on ATM, suspect caught on video

Cops in Bensalem are searching for a man who installed a card skimmer on an ATM on Saturday.

Card skimmers are illegal devices that are installed on ATMs to steal information that is stored on the magnetic strip of an ATM, debit or credit card when a customer uses the machine.

A customer used the ATM Saturday and realized something was wrong with it afterward, police said. Investigators determined that the skimmer had been on the machine for about eight hours before it was reported, however no personal or account information was jeopardized, police said.

The ATM is located on Street Road, however police did not specify which bank the suspect targeted.

A surveillance camera on the ATM recorded the suspect installing the skimmer, and police released photos of him in hopes that help from the public will lead to an arrest.

Tipsters are asked to call Det. Glenn Vandegrift at 215-633-3719, or the anonymous tip line at 215-633-3660.
