Car accident leaves teen in critical condition

A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized after being hit by a car on Front Street near Tioga in Kensington.

The driver initially fled the scene because witnesses tried attacking him, police spokeswoman Tanya Little said. The man drove to a safe location where he called police to report the accident.

Little said the boy was playing in the street at about 7:20 p.m. when he was hit.

Medics took the boy to nearby St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, and police said he appeared to suffer from head injuries.

Accident investigators are now on the scene questioning the driver.

Officials said that as of 9:30 p.m. the driver had not been arrested.
