Two teenage brothers, ages 13 and 17, were shot to death in West Philadelphia's Overbrook Park section Tuesday night, police said.
Cops said a gunman shot the 17-year-old in the chest and the 13-year-old boy in the head inside the living room of a house on Westbury Drive near Malvern Avenue around 7:30 p.m.
Investigators said it appeared that after the younger brother was shot, he ran and made it to the basement of the house, where he collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:40 p.m.
The older brother was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, but doctors were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at 8:07 p.m.
Cops found .45-caliber shell casings in the living room of the house, and said several adult men who were in the house at the time of the shooting were taken to the Homicide Unit to speak with detectives. They said the men who were there at the time also live in the house, but their relationship to the boys was unclear.
Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey and Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross were at the scene as police investigated the double homicide, and hordes of neighbors gathered beyond yellow crime-scene tape and watched investigators at the scene.
Preliminarily, police said they believe the slayings of the teenagers are drug-related. Investigators said the house is a known drug location and narcotics -- they did not specify what kind -- were found inside.
Police remained at the scene investigating the murders around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
