Boy, 14, attacked on SEPTA bus, hospitalized

A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized after being jumped while he rode a SEPTA bus in Wynnefield Friday afternoon, police said.

Around 3:45 p.m., the unidentified boy was riding the route no. 52 bus home from school when a pack of six boys, between the ages of 14 and 17, boarded the bus on 54th Street near Berks. The group began punching and kicking the boy, who sustained a cut to his face in the scuffle, said Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division.

A 17-year-old girl who was riding the bus recognized the victim from a fight with her younger brother, Walker said, adding that she called her brother and told him where to board the bus.

The victim was taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he was listed in stable condition Friday evening. The 17-year-old girl was taken to the Southwest Detective Division for questioning, and the six boys who were involved in the attack fled the scene before police arrived, Walker said.
