Update: Body found in river was missing Korean man

A body found floating in the Schuylkill this morning near the Sunoco Refinery matches the description of a man from Korea who went missing while visiting his wife in Philadelphia earlier this month.

A body found floating in the Schuylkill River this morning near the Sunoco Refinery matches the description of a man from Korea who went missing while visiting his wife in Philadelphia earlier this month.

Police said the body of an Asian man in his late 30s was found in the river around 9:42 a.m. today about a quarter mile north of the Girard Point Bridge.

The man has not been identified but his description is similar to that of Yong Jin Kim, who was reported missing on April 12.

Kim, 41, a Korean resident, was in Philadelphia visiting his wife who lives here, police said. It's unclear why the couple lived apart.

Kim spoke little English and did not know the city. He was last seen at Whitman Cleaners on Cherry Street near 23rd, police said.

Update: Police have confirmed that the body found in the river was that of Young Jin Kim. No foul play was immediately apparent, but police are awaiting autopsy results to determine the final cause of death.
