Just two weeks after a man stabbed another man in the face in the dairy section, a Pathmark in Burholme has been the scene of more bloodshed and violence, after a domestic assault there left one man hospitalized last night.

The latest incident began about 5:45 p.m. at the Pathmark on Cottman Avenue near Oakley Street, where a woman, her friend and the friend's father were loading groceries into a car, said Officer Rafeeq Strickland, a police spokesman.

The woman's ex-boyfriend, 19, pedaled up on his bicycle, attacked his ex, 37, and then chased her back into the store, where he allegedly began punching her, Strickland said. Her friend intervened - prompting the ex-boyfriend to turn his fists on her and begin to punch and choke her, Strickland said. That prompted the friend's father, 58, and another customer, 25, to get involved too: The customer held the ex-boyfriend's arm while the father allegedly put him in a chokehold until he stopped breathing, Strickland said.

Responding officers did CPR on the ex-boyfriend until paramedics arrived. He was rushed to Abington Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition, Strickland said.

No one has been charged, Strickland said. Witnesses can call (215) 686-TIPS.
