Philadelphia experienced a brutal 12-hour period from yesterday afternoon to today's early-morning hours in which nine people were shot - three of whom were killed - bringing the city's murder tally to 52 this year.

Last week, I wrote this piece on how we've already had more murders in Philadelphia this year than in all of New York City, which has 6.8 million more people. At this rate, I don't even want summer to come because it always means more dead bodies, more broken hearts and more families asking "Why?" when there is no reason. It's all so damn senseless.

Here's a chronological breakdown, in reverse order, of the senseless violence that occurred between 3:54 p.m. yesterday and 3:06 a.m. this morning, according to police.

-3:06 a.m. Wednesday: A man tried to enter the Marmeliz Bar on Wyoming Avenue near C Street in Feltonville and was denied entry by a bar employee. The two fought and the man fired three shots at the employee before fleeing on foot. The 29-year-old employee was struck twice in the back and is listed in critical condition at Temple University Hospital. A 26-year-old man who was leaving the bar at the time was also struck once in the left leg by the gunfire. He's listed in stable condition at Albert Einstein Medical Center.

-11:50 p.m. Tuesday: A 20-year-old man is shot in his right leg on Woodlawn Street near Chew Avenue in East Germantown. He's listed in stable condition at Einstein.

-11:20 p.m. Tuesday: A triple shooting in West Oak Lane claimed the life of one of the injured victim, a 31-year-old man whose identity has not been released. My colleague, Vinny Vella, reported on the shooting last night.

-6 p.m. Tuesday: Two men were shot, one fatally, in Logan yesterday in a scene that resulted in a standoff situation. Vella was on the scene there too and filed this report. Police have identified the deceased man as Khoeum Roeun, a 24-year-old man from Marvine Street near Duncannon Avenue.

-3:54 p.m. Tuesday: 22-year-old Adrian Wills of Boyer Street near Church Lane was shot and killed just off of La Salle University's campus yesterday. Vella has the story here.
