2-year-old critical after shooting at party

This post has been updated.

A 2-year-old who was shot in the stomach during a triple shooting in the city's Logan section last night remains in critical condition today, according to police.

The little girl was outside on 12th Street near Courtland when gunfire erupted around 9:17 p.m. She was hit once in the stomach and transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center and then to St. Christopher's Children's Hospital, where she was immediately taken in to surgery, police said.

Also injured by the gunfire was a 22-year-old man who was shot once in the left leg and a 30-year-old man who was shot once in the left hand. Both men were listed in stable condition.

Police reported that the shooting occurred during a block party, but neighbors said today that the gathering was actually a house party in front of one or more houses on the block.

Police do not yet have a motive or a suspect in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the department's tip line at 215-686-8477.

Staff writer Julie Shaw contributed to this report.

We used to have 7 or 8 block parties every summer. Now, we may have 2 or 3. Reason? The stupid intruders who cannot tolerate seeing people have a good time together. When it was not a fight, it was some act of vandalism. Finally, we had a shooting, and the police clamped down on block parties.

Sad folks can't get together for a good time without some knuckleheads messing it up for everybody. I don't think it's a bad idea to have a police monitor a block party. Police officers are already present at large gatherings such as sports events, so why not block parties? It may certainly deter some stupid thug from perpetrating such awful acts.

I saw the interview of people on that block. People knew trouble was brewing because of an altercation between a few according to the witnesses. Back in the old days, they would have called the cops with a description of the people and the cops would have dealt with it. Don't snitch? You reap what you sow.

It's just typical for these people. Birthday parties, funerals, anti-violence rallies, block parties. Nothing stops these people from pulling out a gun and shooting. And then they wonder why people call them animals.

These scumbags must be thrown in jail until they're too old to hurt anybody else. They simply must.

How about no block parties. You want to have a big, loud, crappy party? Go arrange a place and invite whomever you like to share in your low class fun. Leave me and my block out of it. I'll rsvp.
