Police: Man, 19, critical after shooting in Mayfair
A 19-year-old man was in critical condition early Friday morning after police say he was shot in the back in the Northeast's Mayfair section.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said police were called to the area of Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard at 10:40 p.m. and found the victim in a driveway behind houses on Revere Street -- not far from the parking lot of the McDonald's at the corner -- suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.
The teen was taken to Aria Health's Torresdale hospital and listed in critical condition around 1 a.m. Friday, Small said.
The man shot was being held as a prisoner, according to police, after cops found a revolver in his pocket and a small bag of marijuana on him. He told police that he was shot during a robbery and described his assailants only as five men, one of whom wore a gray hooded sweatshirt. The shooters ran north on Revere Street, then split up and ran opposite directions on Guilford Street, according to the victim's account, Small said.
Police recovered a gun believed to be a BB or pellet gun at the scene, but also found a spent shell casing from a real handgun, Small said.
The shooting remained under investigation early Friday morning.
This is why I continually tell people in Manayunk who whine about drunk college kids that things could be much worse. It's better to see 20 somethings puking on the sidewalk than people getting shot. The_Unknown-Poster
I'm not sure any of you who state you drive through Mayfair or ''used'' to live there have any clue as to what you are talking about...hot pink or orange paint? doubt it...all section 8? severely doubt it..get your facts straight before you comment.
