Cops: Man stabbed on subway platform

POSTED: Sunday, October 7, 2012, 12:03 PM

A man was stabbed and robbed of his bicycle on a City Hall subway platform early this morning, according to police.

The 31-year-old victim and his alleged assailant boarded the Market-Frankford El at separate stops, and as they exited the El at 15th Street around 12:45 a.m., the men got into an argument of an unknown nature, police said.

As the victim was trying to lift his mountain bicycle over the turnstile, the assailant charged at him with a knife and cut the victim's chest, causing several small lacerations, police said.

The knife-wielding man then grabbed the victim's bike and tried to run with it, but the bicycle was too cumbersome and the man dropped it and fled through a City Hall exit, according to police.

The offender has not yet been identified but police described him as a 6-foot-2 Hispanic man with a gray-and-black beard and an all-gray hoodie.

The victim has been listed in stable condition.

I don't talk to people and mind my own business. I don't give the time or give away cigarettes. There are crazy animals lurking and sometimes I can't tell the difference between the normal people and those animals. When you take public transportation, you are on your own.

Looks like bike riders aren't safe, in traffic, or subway!!

LOL @ if you are so skeeered. I cracked up. No, a gun would not have helped as the bike owner was cut whilst hoisting his metal horse over the turnstile. How would a gun have factored into the process? He effed up by placing himself in a dangerous situation. He was out very late, he allowed a stranger to approach him, then when it was verified that the stranger was hostile he placed himself in a vulnerable position by lifting his bike over the poles while the bad man was still near by. Just an all around bad process. The first rule to being safe is to keep your buttocks at home after 10PM and stop talking to bad strangers.

There in 1 incident per 100,000 rides in the Philadelphia Subway. So if I ride the subway twice a day, everyday of my life for 100 years there is a .05% chance anything will ever happen to me. I guess that is too much for suburban dweebs though. Look at the stats morons.

lies, damn lies and statistics, most people just take their beat downs and go home, they know that reporting it will only waste more of their time. I suggest you sit next to the train door with your Ipod out and see if you make it thru the week.

paulfromtheoblong: Beyond the general problems with carrying a gun -- you're just as likely to shoot yourself or have the weapon wrestled away and used against you as plug a bad guy -- this victim had a further, specific problem: He was lifting his bicycle over a turnstile when the assailant came at him. If you have three hands, so that you can grasp a bike with two and pull your piece with the third, congratulations. Most of us are less anatomically gifted. In fact, pulling a gun in this case most likely would have taken a minor fray -- "several small lacerations" -- to a homicidal level. Are you eager to promote homicide?

We're still trying to figure out which planet units123 is on. There is definite interference between his/her brain and logical thought patterns. I'd hate to think units123 is a SEPTA employee.

It's the knives! ...If only we could legislate better knife-control and get these knives off the street, the city would be a much better place.

Units123 what the hell are u talking about 'on the tracks' 'not the platform'? I ride every single day. It's EXTREMELY dangerous 'on the platform' and 'on the tracks.' Anyone can be murdered by these animals at any time noon, 3pm, midnitght, doesn't matter. Random completely unprovoked attacks are COMMON. Units123 you work for Septa?

The sad part about this is, with all the crime in this city, this
incident could have taken place anywhere or anytime of the day.
The transit system is not at fault, the individuals on the street
    are in question.

The train platform is as much a part of the train system as the vehicle. SEPTA is responsible for safety on it as well. Tell that to the young fellow who died after being jumped on a platform by a bunch of punks and to those who were shot when a teen fired into a train from the platform.

Hopefully, the victim didn't fall to the urine soaked ground of the subway. With SEPTA being the highest ranked large transit system in America, I would hate to see what NYC, Chicago, LA, or Houston's system would be like.

Much worse. SEPTA is fantastic. Elect more dems in harrisburg in November to see SEPTA at it's full potential.

Best transit system in the nation! How many incidents do they average per month now? At least no one shot into a train this time.

on the tracks it is. Not the platform. The system is extremely safe. You're thinking of the lesser one in the lesser city. NY.

Where was law-enforcement even at 12:45am. Wouldve thought whether it was a Septa cop or Phila. police one wouldve shouldve been there on a permanent basis from 11pm./12am to 6am.

Guess now all of us are risking our life riding the rails overnight. Hopeing law-enforcement will be there when we get off the train. Thats wrong!!!!!!!!! Boast up with medical coverage.
