An 11-year-old boy was struck by a hit-and-run driver around 7 p.m. Sunday night while riding a skateboard near 65th Street and Greenway Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia, police said. The boy, who sustained bruises and cuts to his head and sides, was transported to Children’s Hospital, where he was in stable condition Sunday night.

Police say the driver, described as a black female, got out of the black or dark blue BMW or Mercedes sedan, saw the boy on the ground, then got back into the car and headed westbound on Greenway.

Let's hope they locate the driver and hold her to account for being morally bankrupt. Getting involved in a vehicle accident is one thing. Driving off from an injured child is quite another.

It amazes me how a person can have such total disregard for another human being. I will never understand how someone can hit another person and just keep on going (or in this case, get out and see the person (a child) on the ground and then get back in and drive away).

There needs to be changes to the law with leaving the scene of an accident. People know that if you are under the influence to leave as the penalties are less severe. In most cases the people who leave are drunk or under the influence of something. How someone can hit another human being and leave them in the road like an animal is beyond me. Make a mandatory minimum for leaving the scene of a hit and run involving a child to 5 years minimum with no chance of parole. Maybe then people like this women will stop and not leave the scene.

Too bad no one got a license tag number.

Driver, if you're reading this, do the right thing. You know what to do, just summon the courage and do it.

Because that's what children do when they ride a bike, skate or use a skateboard. As far as I know that doesn't give a driver the right to hit them.
