For those of you that care, last year's 7th Congressional District race between Pat Meehan and Bryan Lentz has triggered another round of criminal charges from the state Attorney General's Office.
Read today's story in the Daily News about Democrat Richard Cairns, who was charged yesterday with allegedly submitting fraudulent petitions to place third-party candidate Jim Schneller on the ballot to help Lentz.
"I kind of like having a choice on the ballot," Cairns, 58, told the Daily News in August, attempting to explain why he had gathered signatures for an ultraconservative candidate.
But Commonwealth Court depositions from a lawsuit challenging Schneller's candidacy revealed a clumsy conspiracy among Delaware County Democrats - including one of Lentz's campaign workers - to siphon votes from Meehan by helping Schneller.
Schneller, a Radnor oddball who occasionally speaks in the third pe rson, initially dismissed that allegation, saying that the news reports were "as tiresome as watching two mice pushing a pancake around a plate." Schneller later admitted that Democrats had been using him to hurt Meehan.
Here's more on Upper Darby Republican operative Paul Summers, who pleaded guilty to similar activity in the same race to help Meehan.
Also, one reader got quite angry with me about today's story: "What a sad and sick person you are Bender."
Nailed it.
Election shenanigans from Democrats??? Who'da thought? Not in THIS town! turkytom
The shenanigans perpetrated by the democratic cabal of Brian Lentz, Nancy Pelosi, and their dirty tricks backfired on them. Right wins out over might. We should all express gratitude to Congressman Pat Meehan from the 7th Congressional District in his recent efforts as part of a bipartisan group of ten U.S. Representatives from Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania to introduce legislation to enhance habitat, water quality and flood control improvements for fish, wildlife and people in the Delaware River Basin. This very important issue of water quality is so important to the quality of life for all of us here in the Delaware Valley as well as the surrounding areas. The issue affects every living sole in our area. It is so important Pat realizes what is important to us as our Congressional Representative. Even though Pat’s district is outside of Philly he realizes the regional impact affecting the Philadelphia area. The 7th District made the right choice. Perhaps Lentz can redeem himself and come back to the Philly D.A.’s office to challenge Seth Williams for the position of District Attorney. It would certainly help clean up Lentz’s tarnished image. Just a thought. Speak-truth-2-power
