Two young teenagers and three adults were hit by gunfire at a Chester basketball court shortly after midnight last night, police said.

All of the victims are in stable condition and police are still actively searching for a shooter or shooters, according to a news release.

A group of people were playing basketball and talking at a court on Congress Street near James at 12:09 a.m. when shots were fired from an unknown location and everyone ducked for cover, police said.

Hurt in the hail of gunfire were a 14-year-old girl who was shot in her right foot, a 14-year-old boy who was hit in the leg, a 35-year-old man who was shot in his back and thigh and two men, ages 20 and 31, who each took a bullet to the leg, police said.

The shooting comes just less than a week after a triple shooting in the city that killed one man and wounded two women on June 26th.

As I detail here, 2014 has been a hellish year for Chester. The city has already marked 15 murders, the mayor's wife was carjacked at gunpoint and a police officer was shot while responding to a domestic violence call.

Anyone with information about last night's shooting is asked to call Chester police at 610-447-8433 or the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division at 610-891-4700.
