Firefighters rescue two DUI landlubbers by boat

Two drunk Delaware County residents had to be rescued by boat last night and early this morning after they tried to drive through the same flooded intersection about an hour apart, according to state police.

Cops say Wendy Reich, 40, of Chadds Ford, drove into the water at Route 1 and Route 100 around 11:45 p.m. last night. The fire department used a boat to rescue her. Reich was subsequently arrested for allegedly being under influence of alcohol and/or a controlled substance.

Around 1:00 a.m., David Duszak, 40, also of Chadds Ford, approached the same intersection. Apparently unaware that his vehicle doesn't float, Duszak drove past the roadblock and straight into the water, police said. He, too, had to be rescued by boat and was charged with DUI "once on dry land," according to a police statement.

The lesson here: Find a designated driver. Preferrably one who can keep the car on land.
