“The most underutilized resource in our area”

It’s easy to miss the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum under Trader Joe's in Media, but it's a gold mine for war buffs and the only museum of its kind in the state.

It's easy to miss the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum. Probably too easy. It's practically hidden under Trader Joe's inside the old Media Armory on State Street. (Although at least there's a front entrance now, not just the ramp in the back).

State Rep. Nick Miccarelli, an Iraq War vet and member of the museum's board, calls it "the most underutilized resource in our area."

"It bothers me sometimes. You see Hollywood celebrities that are practically worshiped, and veterans that are not getting their just due for what they've done for the country," Miccarelli said.

He's absolutely right. If you're in Delaware County, stop by. It's the only museum of its kind in the state. Learn about the Tuskegee Airmen and Band of Brothers or check out the multimedia exhibits and war memorabilia. It's a gold mine for war buffs, but they also do group and school tours. And it's free.

Read our story about the museum, with video from the Daily News' David Williams. (It ran a few weeks ago, but this blog didn't exist then). Hours and other info here.
