S.C. fugitive found in Delco supermarket

Upper Darby police evacuated a supermarket Tuesday morning while searching for a fugitive out of South Carolina who was eventually found hiding between the store and a dumpster, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

Brandon Uhler, 30, is wanted in Myrtle Beach, S.C. for attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a man in the stomach who was staying with his ex-girlfriend, police said. After he visited another ex-girlfriend in Upper Darby Monday night, police tracked him to the Giant supermarket on Baltimore and Union avenues around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Knowing he had gone in the store but had not come out, police evacuated the supermarket and secured the employees on the second floor while they searched the building, Chitwood said.

Surveillance video showed Uhler had escaped out of a back door and police found him hiding in a 12-inch space between the store and a dumpster around 11:40 p.m., Chitwood said. He will face fugitive charges in Upper Darby and is awaiting extradition back to Myrtle Beach to face the attempted murder charges, according to police.
