If anything, Katharine Davis has provided a valuable lesson in how not to conduct insurance fraud.
The 36-year-old Middletown woman was sentenced this week to 14 to 28 months in jail for torching her Honda Accord then calling her insurance company to report the fire, according to the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.
Poor execution all around.
First mistake: Davis' neighbors at the Glen Riddle Apartments saw her taking a hammer to the car's rear window at 4 p.m. the day before the fire, according to the arrest report.
Second mistake: Neighbors saw Davis around the Honda at 5 a.m. the next morning. Then it started smoking before she made it back to her apartment. Then it became engulfed in flames.
At least she didn't leave a trail of beer cans with her DNA on it, like another bumbling arsonist from Pennsylvania in the news this week.
Davis, who seems to have a Downton Abbey thing going on in her mug shot, elected for a jury trial in Media, which did not work out so well for her. She was convicted of insurance fraud, arson, and filing a false report.
