Lentz: "Gutless" reps kill Harrisburg gun bill

Delaware County state Rep. Bryan Lentz lashed out at Harrisburg lawmakers last night, calling them “gutless” and “shortsighted” after they shot down his attempt to close the so-called “Florida loophole” that allows Pennsylvania residents to legally carry a concealed weapon if they obtain a permit from the Sunshine State after being denied one here.

Delaware County state Rep. Bryan Lentz lashed out at Harrisburg lawmakers last night, calling them "gutless" and "shortsighted" after they shot down his attempt to close the so-called "Florida loophole" that allows Pennsylvania residents to legally carry a concealed weapon if they obtain a permit from the Sunshine State after being denied one here.

But how do you really feel, Bryan?

Lentz, a Democratic congressional candidate, tried to tack his legislation onto the "Castle Doctrine" bill, but he says opponents refused to consider the bill with amendments.

"I'm disappointed the House did not see my bill for what it is – another way to protect Pennsylvanians from violent individuals who victimize people with firearms they have no right to carry," Lentz said.

Lentz and gun-control groups cite the Marqus Hill case, among others, as reasons why his law is needed. Gun-rights groups, however, say out-of-state permits are sometimes necessary because the Philadelphia police department is overly strict in granting concealed-carry permits.

But it doesn't really matter where you come down on the issue. The bill isn't going anywhere at the moment, with the legislative session winding down and Lentz not seeking re-election.
