DA: More legal troubles for O'Neill family

Sean O'Neill Jr., the young Delaware County man who killed his best friend with a shotgun while drunk in 2006, has skipped out on his probation for a driving under the influence charge and may have fled the country, according to the Chester County District Attorney's Office.

O'Neill, now 23, comes from one of Delco's more notorious families. His father, Irish national Sean O'Neill Sr., who once owned Maggie O'Neill's Irish Pub in Drexel Hill, was deported after he was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for tax, citizenship and firearm offenses in 2009.

That same year, O'Neill's sister, Roisin, was sentenced to five-to-10 years in state prison for a drunk driving crash on the Blue Route that killed a 63-year-old Massachusetts woman.

Back in 2006, when Sean O'Neill Jr. was just 17, he shot his friend, Scott Sheridan, to death at his family's home while playing with his parents' gun during an unsupervised drinking party.

On Thanksgiving morning 2011, O'Neill, whose blood-alcohol level was found to be .258 percent, crashed his car into a a private garage in West Goshen. He was sentenced to two-to-six months in Chester County Prison.

O'Neill, of Glen Mills, served his prison time but recently tested positive for alcohol, and then narcotics, while still on probation, prosecutors said.

He has since fled from supervision and has been declared a fugitive. In a press release, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said a bench warrant has been issued for O'Neill's arrest.

"We have received some information that O'Neill has fled the country," Hogan said. "If that is true, good riddance. If he remains in the United States, we will catch him and bring him to justice."
