Cops: Man steals 4 TVs from one Walmart in 5 days

A man who walked out of the same Delaware County Walmart with four television sets in a five-day period was caught yesterday when he went back to the store to steal a sound bar, a relatively small item compared to the 50-inch TV he got away with, according to court documents.

A man who walked out of the same Delaware County Walmart with four television sets in a five-day period was caught yesterday when he went back to the store to steal a sound bar, a relatively small item compared to the 50-inch TV he got away with, according to court documents.

After being confronted by store security, Matthew Colleluori, 33, of Wildwood, N.J., led police on a high-speed chase through Delaware County before crashing his vehicle in to two cop cars, police said.

Around 1 p.m. yesterday, a security guard at the Walmart in the Marple Crossroads Center in Marple Township watched Colleluori take a sound bar stereo system from the store, place it in his cart and walk out without paying, police said. When the guard confronted Colleluori in the parking lot, he allegedly fought with her before letting go of the cart and fleeing in a silver Pontiac.

Colleluori then led police on a chase through several Delaware County municipalities before he was forced to stop after hitting two patrol cars as he exited 95 North at Route 420. Police said they discovered a female passenger and empty heroin packets in his vehicle.

While the chase was going on, the Walmart security guard went back and reviewed surveillance video from that day and saw Colleluori had been in the store 15 minutes prior to the theft she had seen him committing and had walked out, unnoticed, with a 40-inch television, according to court documents.

Store employees discovered Colleluori was also responsible for the thefts of a 50-inch TV on Jan. 17, a 32-inch TV on Jan. 19 and a 47-inch TV Jan. 21, police said. In each case, he just walked out with the items, police said.

After checking his records, police said they also discovered that Colleluori had been arrested in New Jersey on Jan. 21 for shoplifting.

He has been charged by Marple Township Police with robbery, theft, aggravated assault, fleeing police and related offenses.
