Police ID 'person of interest' in love-triangle hit-and-run

Collingdale police have identified a person of interest in what they believe was an intentional hit-and-run that left a borough man seriously injured.

Police in Collingale, Delaware County have identified a person of interest in what they believe was an intentional hit-and-run that left a borough man seriously injured.

Investigators want to talk to Conroy Williams, the owner of a Range Rover that mowed down Joel Witherspoon, 36, early Saturday morning outside his home on Bedford Avenue. Williams is from Philadelphia.

"It would behoove him to come and talk to us," Collingdale Police Chief Robert Adams said of Williams.

Adams said a detective interviewed Witherspoon today at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Witherspoon provided Williams' name. Adams said Williams is believed to have a child with Witherspoon's ex-girlfriend.

"Our information leads us to believe that he's the driver and the owner" of the Range Rover, Adams said of Williams.

Police say Witherspoon, reportedly a member of the former rap duo Philly's Most Wanted, was struck by the Range Rover around 5:30 a.m. Saturday. He sustained severe head and leg injuries and required extensive surgery. The driver of the SUV also smashed into other vehicles before fleeing the scene.

"He was lying in wait," Adams said of the driver.

Meanwhile, Collingdale police are still hoping for tips in last month's fatal hit-and-run at Clifton Avenue and Spruce Street.

Anyone with information should call 610-586-0502.
