A man who punched a Wawa patron for allegedly looking at his daughter last weekend has been identified and arrested.
Upper Darby police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said Gary Edwards, 45, of Cedar Avenue near 50th Street, turned himself in with his lawyer around 9 a.m. today.
Once surveillance footage of Edwards was released on Monday, Chitwood said "the phone calls just kept coming in" from the community, law enforcement and federal probation officers.
"You couldn't miss him," Chitwood said. "He's 5'11" and 300 pounds."
Edwards is on federal probation, but police are still trying to determine why, Chitwood said. He also has a long history of arrests for charges including assault, burglary, child abuse and drug offenses, most of which are out of Baltimore, police said.
For allegedly punching the 47-year-old Wawa patron, Edwards was charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.
