Stefanski leading candidate for Toronto position

76ers general manager Ed Stefanski is one of three candidates for the Toronto Raptors' vacant GM position, Yahoo! Sports is reporting tonight. Yahoo! lists the other two candidates as former New Orleans Hornets' GM Jeff Bower and San Antonio Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey.

Stefanski is currently still under contract as the Sixers' general manager, but given the change in ownership, it's become clear that Stefanski is almost certainly out of a position with the Sixers. Stefanski has been given clearance to interview for other positions, one of which, Yahoo! is reporting, will be the Raptors' spot.

Included in the new ownership group is former Sacramento Kings assistant general manager Jason Levien. Couple Levien with current president Rod Thorn, who last summer was hired to take Stefanski's position as president, and the Sixers' front office is becoming crowded.

Because of that, Stefanski has clearance to seek other NBA front office positions.

Stefanski, who was hired in 2007 for former GM Billy King, has been rumored in the last few weeks to be a possible candidate for other GM positions, but the Toronto news is the first concrete evidence that his time in the Sixers' front office is likely coming to a close.
