Wroten out with ACL tear

Tony Wroten will have surgery to repair a partial tear in the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee.

The 76ers point guard suffered the injury on Jan. 13 in a home loss to the Atlanta Hawks.  The injury was diagnosed this week by a specialist in Los Angeles. The Sixers had originally announced that Wroten had a sprained right knee.

"In the next period of time, we are going to apply a timeline to this injury. Right now, we are not in a position to do that," coach Brett Brown said before Friday's game against the Toronto Raptors.

Brown said the team believed that Wroten did indeed have an ACL tear. However, the Sixers wanted him to speak to a specialist to be certain.

"It is disappointing news," Brown said "We have to make sure we help him stay active in his mind and be physically ready. I've had a lot of practice with injured players. And he'll reap the benefit of some of the things we've learned."

Wroten has played in 30 of the Sixers' 42 games this season and is averaging a team-best 16.9 points.
