Uncertainty continues to surround Andrew Bynum

Andrew Bynum and the 76ers said he is getting better, able to increase his rehabilitation, beginning with riding a stationary bike.

Both the Sixers and Bynum were smart not to give a timetable on his return or even if there would be a return.

“It’s hard to say,” Sixers general manager Tony DiLeo said. “It depends on how his body reacts.”

Fair enough.

Bynum said he was confident he would be back, but that’s different from stating he definitely will play this year.

We’re not doctors, but the fact that he is now just able to ride a stationary bike doesn’t sound like overly optimistic news, although it’s better than saying that Bynum had another setback with his chronically weak knees.

Both DiLeo and Bynum wouldn’t be pinned down to even give a guess on his return.

“I really don’t know,” Bynum said. “I know I will be back, it is not a career-ending situation.”

Whether he will be back this year remains to be seen.

DiLeo said that Thursday’s exam with Dr. David Altchek showed some positives.

“His knees are healing, he is improving,” DiLeo said.

Even Bynum admitted that he has a “ways to get back.”

So even on a day when progress was announced, nobody knows for sure what it exactly means.
