The Miami Heat ended the 76ers season tonight here inside AmericanAirlines Arena. Miami won, 97-91, winning this opening-round, best-of-seven series by four games to one. Miami advances to play the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Miami Heat ended the 76ers season tonight here inside AmericanAirlines Arena. Miami won, 97-91, winning this opening-round, best-of-seven series by four games to one. Miami advances to play the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

There is much to say about this season. And there is much to say about the future: this coming summer as well as next season, assuming no lockout.

But for tonight, since neither of those monumental topics are going to be done justice, let's just leave it at this: the Sixers, as franchise, got themselves back on track this season. Doug Collins did exactly what he said he'd do: make this a team that fought every moment it was on the court. 

We'll tackle the pressing issues -- and, yes, there are plenty -- in the days to come.
