Stefanski interviews Kurt Rambis

POSTED: Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 6:29 PM

The 76ers have just confirmed that 76ers General Manager Ed Stefanski interviewed Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis for the team's head coaching vacancy.

It is reported that the interview took place yesterday in Los Angeles. Today's interview with Dwane Casey also took place in L.A.

Rambis played in the NBA with the Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, and Phoenix Suns. His only stint as a head coach came during the strike-shortened 1998-99 season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Rambis finished that season 24-13 as the team's head coach. Rambis has also served as the Lakers assistant general manager.

I would like to see the Sixers hire Shippensburg University Asst. Coach Mike Nestor. Nestor could bring in Univ. of Delaware Asst. R.C. Kehoe and they would be the best defensive coaches in the NBA. This team needs to learn how to play D-E-F-E-N-S-E.

All right, Jef Van Gundy is happy as announcer. Stan Van Gundy (AKA Master of Panic) has panicked the Magic to a 1-0 lead over the Cavs. These guys look like schoolteachers and coach like fiends. Is there a "lost" 3rd Van Gundy brother we could hire??? If not, get Jeff- hes an east coast guy and would fit in perfectly in philly and no one would be accusing the coaching staff of not working hard enough

Kate, are you a real journalist? "It is reported"; are you kidding me? Who is it reported by? If you get your leads by listening to a local sports radio station, you should at least give credit to the source. Please tell me where you got this information BEFORE confirming it with the Sixers.

Haven't seen any interviewed yet that makes me want to go see this team play. Defense wins, it always will, we need a coach who is the best at that, I wonder who that could be, maybe that guy from Boston ...

PSV, your right on the money. Running wins during the regular season when teams are unprepared, are playing two games on the road in three nights or when playing four games in five nights. Running doesn't win in the playoffs.

Rick H, like most people you are half right on everything. Stefanski's BIG MISTAKE was signing Iguodala to a max money contract. Iggy's a great athlete but NOT a great basketball player. Thaddeus hired a shooting coach in the off season and took hundreds of jumpers everyday; Iggy needs to do the same thing if he's going to play two guard. Giving Iggy the max money contract was also a bad strategic move; we are now hamstrung for bringing in outside talent. Brand can still play effectively; he needs at least this coming year to evaluate his contract. Tell you need Brand for the playoffs because you need half-court post play to win playoff basketball. If Stefanski hires Eddie Jordan, he might as well start looking for another job.

Rickh, can you please name a team in the last decade that won a championship by running? I'm not interested in watching a team whose ceiling is fifth, maybe fourth best in the East. The Sixers need to drop the whole running nonsense, it's not going to win anything but quick exits from the playoffs. Brand is a piece. Brand isn't a bust, only because the Sixers have no outside shooters, so they can double and triple team him without having to worry about the ramifications. Again, the point is to win championships. I don't know if you were at game six, but I never want to see that team ever again.

Holy kr@p, is that the same Kurt Rambis who looked like one of the Hansen Brothers during his playing days? Was he on "Extreme Makeover"?
