76ers second-year big man Marreese Speights could miss up to two months with a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

With 9 minutes, 38 seconds left in the fourth quarter of last night's game against the Chicago Bulls, Speights grimaced and grabbed his left knee. It was on a defensive possession. Speights went back to the locker room with the Sixers trainer and did not return.

After the game, the Sixers said Speights would be evaluated further today. That further evaluation -- an MRI this morning -- revealed the partial tear. Sixers team doctor, Jack McPhilemy, said Speights will be out approximately six to eight weeks.

Big loss. I guess Brand will see his minutes come back.

Tremendous blow; the one up-and-coming player on this team. Brand will now get his 40 minutes per game and Jason Smith will need to step up as well, but the up-tempo game is probably gone and with it the entertainment value that would draw the fannies into the seats. As I said on another post, should the pathetic attendance continue (and aside from Lebron and Kobe coming to town, it will), Comcast might cut its losses by cutting the Sixers from its product line, so to speak, particularly if Comcast adds debt by taking on NBC-Universal. Are those posters who say they don't care about the Sixers ready for no Pro Basketball in this town?

Shame. The kid was one of the good things this year. I guess Brand can try and play some more minutes. Lol.

Don't know if this impacts Brand's minutes at all, as it sounds like Jordan will still go with match ups over experience/contracts. Still, it's pretty much now or never for Brand to make his mark on the team, the coach and the fans! I still think the fans are pulling for him and if he strings a few 15/11 games together - who knows, you may even see kids wearing a "42" shirt in town that doesn't read STACKHOUSE.

A few 15/11 games? he makes $80 million. He better go 22/12 if he gets the minutes and the Sixers better win those games or at least be extremely competitive. Now looks like the Bobcats can beat them on Wednesday after their trade with Golden State.
