The 76ers have signed free agent center Primoz Brezec.

“We feel that Primoz will provide us with additional size and depth in the front court, but just as beneficial is the wealth of experience he brings to the team not only on the NBA level, but internationally as well,” Sixers general manager Ed Stefanski said.

Brezec (7-1, 255) has appeared in 321 games with 214 starts across seven NBA seasons with Indiana, Charlotte, Detroit and Toronto.  For his career, he has averaged 7.6 points and 4.1 rebounds in 19.0 minutes per game while shooting 50.0% from the floor and 70.6% from the line.

Last season, Brezec played for Lottomatica Virtus Roma of the Italian League.  He started the 2007-08 season with the Bobcats before being traded to the Pistons and then the Raptors.

Brezec’s best season came during the Bobcats inaugural campaign in 2004-05.  He averaged career highs of 13.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.2 and 0.76 blocks in 31.6 minutes per game while ranking 13th in the league with 3.1 offensive boards per game.

Is this team better or worse going into this season? I say worse. Hard to be a fan of the 76ers with this front office. The one glaring need - outside shooting is overlooked. Don't say Kapono.

The loss of Andre Miller will be huge. No one remotely ready to run the show. Maybe Holiday in a year or two. The return of Jason Smith, and adding Brezec will help some in the front court. It would also help a lot if Iguodala developed a shot thus enabling a move to SG so the team could have him and Young on the floor together. All in all though, it looks to be (yet another!) .500 ballclub.

What Ed Stefanski was really saying was this is the best guy we could find to play back-up center at the league minimum. There will have to be career years for Iguodala, Brand and Young for this team to be a .500 ballclub. The two guard positions will be exposed as woefully inadequate this year, and will have to be addressed next offseason. This team could be 25-30 games below .500 easily because of the wink links at the guard positions. The only "wealth" that the Sixers organization sees is not paying the luxury tax. That means two more players will be signed at the league minimum. The Sixers in retrospect miscalculated signing Brand and Iguodala to maximum deals not anticipating the salary cap to be significantly reduced. This will have a negative effect on the quality of depth on the team this season and next season until the Dalembert contract expires. The Sixers destiny and only question for this season is the order of their lottery pick in the next NBA draft.

Why does Ed sign Bigmen instead on focusing on a good veteran point guard or I think Ed should have sign Ramon Sessions.
