Sixers work out point guard Carter-Williams

The 76ers worked out former Syracuse point guard Michael Carter-Williams over the weekend, a league source has confirmed.

The 6-foot-6, 184-pounder, who left the Orange after his sophomore season, is expected to be a lottery pick in Thursday's NBA draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Sixers have a first-round pick (11th overall) and two second-round selections, the 35th and 42d picks.

Carter-Williams could fill the need for a backup point guard. He was fifth nationally in assists (7.3 per game) and fourth in steals (2.8) this past season at Syracuse. The Hamilton, Mass., native also averaged 11.9 points and 3.4 turnovers.

Carter-Williams is an excellent passer with great court vision and is extremely active on defense, but he needs to add strength and cut down his turnovers.
