The 76ers power forward is not expected to play “until some time in the new year” after injuring the medial malleolus of his left ankle. He had surgery on Thursday.

This isn’t the first time the second-year player was hampered with an ankle injury.

The 6-foot-10, 245-pounder missed last summer’s Orland Pro Summer League after injuring his ankle during a predraft workout in Sacramento, Calif.. Still hampered by the injury in last year's training camp, he wasn't in shape at the start of the season. Then, in December 2012, he was sent down to the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA Developmental League for seven games.
