Hawes calls knee injury 'nothing major'

Spencer Hawes gave the 76ers a scare Monday when he injured left knee doing defensive slides at training camp.

Spencer Hawes gave the 76ers a scare Monday when he injured his left knee doing defensive slides at training camp.  The 7-foot, 245-pound center missed the remainder of practice and didn't work out on Tuesday.

Hawes, however, said his injury is not serious.

"It's good," Hawes said after Tuesday's first session at St. Joseph's. "I just kind of twisted my knee yesterday, doing a drill, slipped on a wet spot. So it's kind of one of those things that you really can't do anything about.

"I'm just kind of erring on the side of caution."

The plan was to rest Tuesday and take things slowly moving forward.

"But it's nothing major," he said.

The 25-year-old, who's entering his seventh NBA season, averaged 11 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.38 blocks last season.
