Collins addresses Sixers trade
John Mitchell, Inquirer Staff Writer
Sixers coach Doug Collins, in London carrying out his broadcast duties for the Olympics, has already commented on the deal that landed Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson on the Sixers 2012-13 roster. The Sixers confirmed the trade Friday afternoon in a press release.
Collins also comments on the departure of forward Andre Iguodala.
Here’s what he had to say to Probasketballtalk:
“When you think about adding Andrew Bynum, a big man who can score in the paint, rebound and block shots — something we desperately needed — and Jason Richardson adds another shooter to our lineup, so I’m very excited,” Collins said.
“On the flip side of that you have to trade somebody and Andre Iguodala had a brilliant career for the Philadelphia 76ers,” he continued. “I coached him for two years, he helped me win a lot of games. I’m very, very appreciative of him and I wish him well in Denver.”
Doug, you got an intriguing roster going into next season. If you coach them as well as you handled the playoffs, you might succeed in returning Philly to elite status. rzzzzz
So i guess that Bynum is now your starting Center huh?. I would imagine Collins is excited. I remember his comments following game 7 last year. " we need to get Bigger and more athletic with better outside shooting" i think it's safe to say Mission accomplished! !!. Kudos to Thorn and the Staff. Looking forward to a great season. Let's get busy Boys kerryt
He's in London with Dre. Would think they could talk face to face. coachc- The Sixers landed arguably their biggest FA acquisition since Moses Malone, and the philly media's entire coverage has essentially been to quote ESPN, Yahoo and NBC Sports
- Wow...they also acquired a big FA? Who was that?

Sixers looking good. We now have the best center in the East, and we added several permieter shooters. Hopefully Hawes will continue to develope at the PF, and it's ET needs to take his game to the next level too for this team to make a deep run. Porcu
Bynum, Hawes, Allen and Brown. Wow. The Sixers have gone from one of the smallest teams in the league to one of the biggest in a small amount of time. Can't wait to see how Doug mixes them with all of the perimiter players we now have. I'm liking what they're doing. JLH- Don't forget Moultrie. Gonna be fun.

When has the Sixers been elite the past two decades? philaflava
Agree Stik. Looking forward to next season with the scorer and elite center that we've all been waiting for!! Tarik S. Khan
On same level as Bulls, Knicks, Boston and Nets now- obviously not Miami. Could be anywhere from 2-5 seed when before trade were anywhere from 6 seed to out of playoffs. Nice job by front office. Now if Collins can coach Bynum and they can sign long term, develop Turner and Holiday and Wright and Young can shoot- look out!. J Rich is wildcard in this too. Plus Thad get to play 3 now. I'm a life long Sixer fan who moved and I will be buying NBA League Pass now. friedmozzarela
Poor Doug has to say goodbye to his boy... Think of how good the Sixers would look right now if he actually let Turner play Iguodala type minutes and develop, instead of trying to be the 8th seed in the East. FABER
I'm proud of the Sixers' front office for having the guts to pull the trigger on this blockbuster deal. That's reason in and of itself to hope this works out well. I think it will. nmlawyer
This is a great trade as long as Bynum stays healthy and his attitude and game continues to improve. If all of those things happen, he'll hopefully sign a max deal and stays with the Sixers. Potential lineup: pg-Holiday/Wayns, sg-Richardson/N.Young, sf-Turner/Wright, pf-Hawes/Young/Moultrie, c-Bynum/Brown/Allen. Top 4 in the East!!!! Can't wait for the season to begin!!!! uscwee
I wonder, how are we going to keep him if he won't sing an extension? Ace-Philadelphia
