At the end of the morning session at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, 76ers center Andrew Bynum, who has been watching his teammates practice from the sidelines, said that if the team were actually playing meaningful games he would be out there with them.
“I feel pretty good,” Bynum said. “I’m definitely getting better.”
The Sixers decided to rest Bynum at the start of the training camp and through the seven preseason games the team will play. Bynum received injections of plasma-rich platelets that supposedly stimulate healing in arthritis-affected areas in both of his knees last month in Germany.
Bynum said that he was anxious to get on the floor with his new teammates, and he indicated that watching them prepare for the upcoming season had been difficult. In an effort to get a better understanding of the offense, Bynum said he has been taking videos home with him and watching them at night.
Bynum said he expected to be ready for the season opener on Oct. 31 against Denver.
“I think right now it’s about my pain threshold,” Bynum said. “I’m doing better but I can’t really get out there and get up and down with my teammates.”

1. What patterns do you see in those videos you are watching every night?
2. After watching these practices, how do you see yourself fitting into the flow of the offense.. and defensively how will the flow change?
3. What benefits will other players have with having a true center on the floor..

- Oden never averaged 18 and 12. Just relax and enjoy the season. The Sixers brass and Bynum team mates don't seemed alarmed and the man said if this was the regular season he would be out there. They are just being overly cautious to what should be our center piece for the next decade.— Da Fredster

- Bynum sure does not sound confident...if he were getting better he'd say something like "I'll be 100% soon"...instead he's insinuating he's just going to have to play in pain. He sounds defeated in his interview...like its he's just gonna have to live with the pain. Also, how bad is this injury if he can't even run up and down the court? Mr. Mitchell why do you ask him questions that are a bit more direct like: What exactly caused the bone bruise? Will you be pain free when you start practicing?— leonsantillan
- When Bynum was asked for a silver lining to sitting out he answered: "hopefully better health" Does that sound like the guy is going to be all healed up in 2 weeks?— leonsantillan
- Pain ????!!!! Did he say PAIN. Nothing that I have previously read made mention of Pain. If there is pain involved then could his knees be more of a problem than we have been led to believe ??? - The injections Bynum had are the equivalent of a procedure here called platelet rich plasma injections. They hurt like hell but should stimulate healing for what ever injury he's hiding. That being said his comments should be making the Sixers brass cringe and we have reason to be concerned. I don't see this guys knees holding up for a long career, Getting into a long term contract with this guy could bring the team down for years let alone what they gave up for him.— Bocadok

for the summer deals to make sense Bynum needs to be playing and healthy. The team is built around a dominant center. If we lose Bynum....where do we get a dominant center? Im glad the team took a chance on the guy.....but if he flakes out or his health fails the team will need to basically start over...atleast in regards to developing into a contender— murdock101
